Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
June 14, 2026 - 6:45am
Expires:
June 14, 2026 - 2:00pm
Description:
A low pressure system with an associated atmospheric river will
bring increased moisture toward Yakutat and the Northeastern Gulf
Coast through Sunday. This event will not be long in duration, with
the heaviest rain lasting into Sunday afternoon. The rain will be
moderate to heavy during most of the event, with the most likely
scenario being 2 to 4 inches of rainfall in total through Sunday
afternoon. There is a 20% chance that rainfall totals reach or even
slightly exceed 4 inches. That being said, no flooding is expected
at this time. There are likely to be rises in river levels, but soil
moisture is still low(around 50% to 60%). This means that most of
the rain will be absorbed into the ground. We will continue to
monitor the development of this system and any possible impacts.
Additionally, the low pressure system is expected to keep
deteriorated marine conditions into Sunday afternoon. Seas of up to
around 11 to 18 ft, with up to gale-force easterly winds are
expected over the Northeastern Gulf of Alaska waters through Sunday
morning.
