At 647 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area to East Amana to near Parnell to near Gibson, moving southeast at 55 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Trained weather spotters. Several measured wind gusts between 60 to 70 mph in Benton and Iowa Counties. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Vinton, Marengo, Williamsburg, Belle Plaine, Atkins, Walford, Urbana, North English, Shellsburg, Victor, Newhall, Blairstown, Van Horne, Keystone, Norway, Garrison, Ladora, Parnell, Millersburg, and Mount Auburn. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 205 and 229. Interstate 380 between mile markers 40 and 48.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
