Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
* WHERE...A portion of northwest Kansas, including the following
counties, Decatur and Rawlins.
* WHEN...Until 345 PM CDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water over
roadways. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. River or
stream flows are elevated.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1159 AM CDT, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain
in the advisory area due to thunderstorms. Standing water was
reported along the Beaver Creek on the west side of Atwood.
Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Atwood, Herndon, Ludell, Blakeman, Beardsley and Traer.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
