Southern Hitchcock County in southwestern Nebraska... * Until 530 PM CDT. * At 456 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 3 miles east of Stratton to near Herndon, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Tennis ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Spotters reported 1.75 inch hail north of Ludell on the county line. IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for northwestern Kansas...and southwestern Nebraska.
