Special Weather Statement

Expected
Effective:
June 17, 2026 - 3:55pm
Expires:
June 18, 2026 - 5:00pm
Description:
The Near-Equatorial Trough (NET) has become very active across
eastern Micronesia, with numerous to widespread heavy showers south
of Chuuk. A weak disturbance, Invest 93W, has also formed along the
NET near 5N168E. The NET and associated convection look to drift
northward over the next few days, as Invest 93W slowly moves west-
northwest. Little development is expected with 93W as it moves out,
however, it will help increase rainfall potential across the region.
Weno could see rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches through the
weekend, with locally heavier amounts possible. This amount of
rainfall will lead to flooding, localized flash flooding and possible
mudslides over the next several days. The heavy rainfall will also
result in reduced visibilities, making travel dangerous. Use caution
when traveling over the next several days. The NET is showing the
potential to remain active into the middle of next week, possibly
resulting in a prolonged period of heavy rains, increasing the
mudslide potential.
Residents of Chuuk should remain alert for heavy rainfall, flood and
mudslides watches, warnings or advisories issued by your local
National Weather Service office. Heed the advice of local Emergency
Managers. Those who live in flood prone areas should work to secure
and safeguard property.
